1006

1967. Later in USA (km/h speedo). Off white/black leather. At auction in Scottsdale Arizona, January 22 200 USD, not sold. Condition described as 4+: Fair paint and chrome, ripples in hood, cracked dash padding, tired interior wood, good leather, hubcap missing, rust at bottom of doors.

Post sale offered for $5 000. October 2014 advertised on ebay. Original sales text: The subject car hails originally from California and is a 5-speed model. It has been lying dormant for some time and hasn’t been on the road for over a decade. We originally had this car back in the 90’s and sold it to a local enthusiast. Over the last 25 years it was driven very sparingly. We recently bought it back as the gentleman was downsizing his lifestyle, and removed it from the heated garage where it had been slumbering. The help of world-renowned factory trained Maserati/Ferrari Master Technician Ray Segale was requested. Segale came in from Sun Valley, Idaho and gave the car a comprehensive service and tune. Fluids were flushed and changed. The car was brought back to life. The car runs, drives, shifts and stops well. Gas tanks were cleared, electrical sorted and the fine tuning of an expert all lavished upon this lovely dame.As of the moment, we are missing one hubcap. The interior is nothing short of spectacular. The original leather is still supple and in remarkable condition. The body is very straight and nicely balanced. The panel fit is brilliant. The brightwork all still in good form with no appreciable scaling or pitting. The paintwork now 30 to 40ish years old has a few flaws. The primrose color looks great with the black interior but there are minor chips and scratches. There is minor bubbling at the base of the A pillars/rocker areas below the front doors. This imperfection is exactly the same size as it was 20 years ago or so and hasn’t changed while in the custody of the prior owner. This is air conditioned car but it will require some service and likely conversion to R.23.The term “barn find” is tossed around too easily. This car was never left to be shat upon by poultry. It is, however, an exceptional example of preservation and indeed “time capsule” condition. It looks like a 5-year old car. Having been loved and parked for decades, it is now ready to reunite with the road. The proud new owner will love the feel and drive. This fantastic automobile deserves nothing less than to be back on the road. Starting price was 15 000 USD. The seller is Cosmopolitan Motors in Tacoma, Washington. Sold for 51 102 USD, October 19, 2014. A few days later offered again by the same seller, now starting price 65 000 USD. June 2015 for sale by Hyman Ltd, St. Louis MO, now priced at 62 500 USD. Their sales text:

AM107.1006 is a 1967 US spec example that is finished in attractive primrose yellow over a black leather interior. An early second series model, it was originally delivered to California and is fitted with the sweet 4.2 liter V8 and desirable ZF 5-speed manual gearbox. It was most recently in the hands of a collector who used the car very sparingly, and who until recently, had left it slumbering in a dry, heated garage. It was carefully awakened by marque expert Ray Seagle who flushed all the fluids and performed a comprehensive tune up and freshening. This car has never been restored and it has only seen relatively light use. It is solid, tidy and charmingly attractive. The paint has held up remarkably well, though there are a few blemishes here and there, mainly in the form of stone chips and some minor bubbling on the rockers and the decklid. Chrome is quite presentable and straight, and all the bits of trim are present. The Quattroporte was a very well built car in its day, costing more than a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. Since this car has never been crashed, rotted or restored, that build-quality has been well preserved. Of course, a Quattroporte is a luxury car and this example does not disappoint. Beautifully preserved black leather is accented by nice original wood and chrome trim. A gorgeous wood rim steering wheel sits in front of a set of original instruments and switches. On the road, this Quattroporte behaves very well and exhibits excellent performance and sounds simply glorious. Handling is very good for a car of this size and is sure to deliver many more miles of entertainment. The Quattroporte is simply a very cool, very fast, and very unusual alternative to the usual European luxury cars of the era. Few other cars of the era combine the big Maserati’s motorsport heritage, exotic Italian styling and high-performance in a luxurious four-door package. «Original instruments»: at least the Ampèremeter is not original. And, anyway: it‘s a long way from the honest description in Scottsdale 2000 – for basically the same car. Note the careless overspray on the rubber at various places, the absence of the trident on the C pillar: this car has got a quick makeover once in its lifetime, in a non-original paint scheme. Note the change from the original hub caps to Sebring type ones: why has Hyman done this? Maybe because ehe had 4 Sebring caps but only 2 Quattroporte ones? Note the km/h speedo: definitely not a «American spec car» as indicated, but first registered elsewhere, probably in Italy, and then maybe new privately imported to the US. Anyway: «American spec» doesn‘t mean anything, really, as the cars were all the same in those times, crazy American legislations (safety! pollution!) came later. Note also the position of the chassis plate, at the same place where series one cars have it – indeed a very early series two, as the chassis number indicates too! Note the different treatment for ashtray and switches on the middle console. Was this a kind of prototype for the 2nd series?
