1967. France/England. RHD. 4.2. Body # 552. Blue scuro/natural. Delivered via French importer Thepenier to Prince Karim Aga Khan, 28th December 1967. First registered in England, January 10, 1968 (reg nr SHM 24 F). A gift to his mother, Princess Joan Aly Khan, Eaton Square, London, later to become, via second marriage, the Viscountess Camrose. She sold the car in January 1993 to J.H.D. Shorten/Lamb Brocks Solicitors, Basingstoke, Hampshire. In 2004, the car was with Richard Bagshawe Shepherd, Beenham, Reading. In October 2010 for sale on ebay, starting price 50 000 EUR, buy it now for 65 000 EUR. Car then located in England, near London, sale was handled by Dr. Michaela Schäfer, Bad Homburg, Germany. Taxed and mot‘d until August 2015. March 2015: For sale at auction at Coys in London, estimate 38 000 to 42 000 £. Catalogue description: This fabulous example is 1 of only 8 produced in right hand drive and one of only 2 to be in existence today.

It was ordered by French importer, “Agence Maserati” (Thepenier) on 14th November 1967 for His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan and delivered to the importer on 22nd December 1967 who then delivered it to the Prince in Paris on 4th January 1968. Although ordered and delivered through Maserarti Paris, the factory confirms that the car is an original right hand drive example, finished in dark blue with neutral (white) leather interior and first registered as SHM 24F as it still is today and registered on the 10th January 1968 to Princess Aly Khan at 76 Eaton Square, London. The car remained in single ownership for a further 25 years during which time the Princess re-married to the 2nd Viscount Camrose, the former chairman of the Daily Telegraph and she was latterly known as Viscountess Camrose.

The car returned to the factory in Modena in July 1971 for a maintenance check prior to going into dry storage in 1972 although frequently driven around the Hackwood estate. It was subsequently purchased direct from Viscountess Camrose by the second and current owner in 1993. The mileage upon purchase in 1993 was 20,118 kilometres as shown on an MoT certificate from March of that year and subsequently it has covered a total of 45,571 kilometres (28,300 miles) at the last MoT which was carried out in July 2014. The car is accompanied by 17 old MoT certificates confirming the low mileage. The car has been well maintained including an engine rebuild by Maserati specialists in 1999 and is supplied with many other bills for work carried out including invoices from Maserati specialist Bill McGrath. Garaged, serviced and driven every year since '93 it has been on two major journeys with four on board; once to France of 1,500 miles and to Scotland totalling 2,000 miles and gave trouble free motoring. The owner informs us it's in original condition inside and out and comes with the original tool kit and report that the car has not been involved in any accidents. With a comprehensive history file including the original log book with Princess Aly Khan listed as the first owner along with a current V5 document bearing the current owners details. The file also contains a signed letter from Lady Camrose to the current owner confirming the sale of the car in January 1993.

This time warp car still boasts its original dark blue paintwork which is described as being in good condition and contrasting original cream hide interior is reported to be excellent.

Certainly the rarest, most important and original Quattroporte, this stunningly original car boasts extraordinary low mileage and a detailed and significant history file along with ownership history from one of the most evocative names of the 20th century. A fine investment opportunity. Ioften wonder where catalogue writers have their knowledge from. This one just believed the seller, who already in 2010 wrote that there had only 8 RHD cars been built. But trust me: there have been produced much more than only 8 RHD cars, and, as this website shows, much more than 2 of them are still in existence. While the description of the seller in 2012 is even more wrong by describing it as an automatic, at least this error has been rectified. I‘ve examined the car at auction on 9th March 2015. While the interior is in fine original condition (it has been reconnollised a year ago), the exterior needs major work.

All four doors, the wheelarches, boot and bonnet, roof etc. needs rust repair. There was an estimate for it in the accompanying file, quoting a total of 6370 £ for bodywork. Which means, you would have to repaint the whole car, it would be loosing its original paintwork (there has been executed some work already on the sills some time ago)... one of the most important reasons to buy this car would be the original paintwork.

Despite many flaws, the car was sold over the higher estimate, at 45 450 £.

A princely sum for a car with princely provenance. But it didn‘t stay long with the new owner: it is again for sale at auction house Historics in Brooklands, August 29 2015. With the exact same description in the catalogue, the car sold at 50 400 £. Let‘s see where it will reappear again. Karim Aga Khan also owned #1026, #2076, #2274, and #47.2434.
